This is my second attempt at this design which is represents a Spider Lily. I use an inlay technique known as bolection, which in this case basically means "proud of the surface". The natural edge black ash burl slab is approximately 1 1/8" thick by 12 1/2" wide by 19 1/4" long. Each piece is hand carved. The lily's leaves are tiger maple, the stem is mahogany, the pedals are mazanita, and the stamen are bloodwood.
 
Even though the pics show the slab in a free standing stand, this piece is intended to be wall hung. Accordingly the back of the slab has a keyhole slot from which the piece can be hung from a single screw.
