This piece is of a representation of a Sabre Tooth Tiger skull using an inlay technique known as bolection, which in this case basically means "proud of the surface". Each piece hand carved and inlayed into the surface of the natural edge black ash burl slab which measures approximately 3/4" thick by 14 1/2" wide by 12" high. The bones of the skull are carved from figured walnut, and the teeth are birdseye maple. 
 
While the piece can be displayed on a stand, it is intended to be hung on a wall. Accordingly the back of the slab has a keyhole slot from which the piece can be hung from a single screw.
